Promises
Promises
I promise you will get old
I promised you everything
To protect you wherever you go
I'll give you this diamond ring
Just promise you will remember
A promise should last forever
Right up to the dying embers
Of a fire that burns so slow
It's a different day everyday
Don't want you to walk alone
But how long can we carry on?
When all of these things have gone
Just promise you will remember
A promise should last forever
It's the last of the dying embers
Of a fire that burns so slowly
It's a beautiful thing to do
Sometimes you just have to walk away
Remember I do love you
Have courage in what you say
Just promise you will remember
Promises last forever
Still left of the dying embers
The fire that burns so slowly
Sometimes you just have to walk away
Sometimes you just have to walk away
Wishing that today was yesterday
Yeah, sometimes you just have to walk away
Promises
I promise you will get old
I promised you everything
To protect you wherever you go
I'll give you this diamond ring
Just promise you will remember
A promise should last forever
Right up to the dying embers
Of a fire that burns so slow

nano nano.. never
EIGHT WAYS TO KILL SOMEONE BY USING AN IPOD NANO,
ACCORDING TO EX-MARINE BRAD COLLUM.
BY KEVIN FLEMING
- - - -
1. Break it in half with your hands (very easy to do) and use the glass viewing screen's broken edge as a razorblade to slice the jugular when they are looking the other way.
2. Take off one sock (a dress or tube sock; pantyhose will work in a pinch), place the Nano in the sock, swing it around as fast as you can (being careful to not hit yourself), and whack the intended target right on the temple.
3. Take the reflective shiny part and catch the sun's ray and shine it in a vehicle driver's eyes, or if you are at a rock concert and the lead singer is prancing around on a center stage that protrudes into the audience like a phallus, you can use the same technique.
4. The cord on the earbud headphones can be used to strangle someone. A knee in the back can give extra leverage.
5. Dig a pit about 5 feet deep, then take about 15 3-foot-long stakes 2 inches in diameter and sharpen one end to a fine point, like a very sharp pencil. Jam the sticks at least a foot into the ground, with the sharp ends pointing up. Cover the hole with pine boughs, grass, and leaves. Treat the Nano like a slice of cheese pizza in a deep, hot oven and place it gently in the middle.
6. Carefully unstaple a tea bag and pour the contents on a plate. Break into the lithium-ion battery pack and saturate the tea with the battery's poison, then dry the tea in the sun (or with a hair dryer if you are in a hurry). Put tea back in tea bag and bend the staple back to its original position. Put the tea bag back where you got it.
7. Download to the Nano "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. Tell someone you will give him or her your Nano if they listen to that song a hundred times in a row.
8. Hide the Nano in a bowl of lutefisk, then take it to the annual Norsefest Lutefisk Eating Competition in Madison, Minnesota.

revisit: broken clocks
soul cleansing #2
there is a place called here & now where time does not enter...
where beautiful broken clocks go unnoticed; where time & space cease to exist;
where gentle touches & caresses fill the space where nothing else can enter;
time fills the void; time makes everything possible; right timing will do wonders for many souls;
in the end, we are all slaves to the clock: biological, mental, physical, emotional;
death....that is...if you let yourself look at the hands of that which is not broken
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
luis.......i miss you. this place is sad and lonely. i understand why you hate sleeping solo in a room with double beds. it appears beautiful and full, but in truth it is haunted.
at first moment you were my knight in shining armor. the first 'man' i dated. you shine your shoes on sunday; you are educated; artistic; a writer; a soul full of life and love and desire and passion. you are my voice of reason. in this mixing bowl we have rubbed each other in odd ways- the kind that can turn a dangerous piece of glass into sea glass. we are taking the edges off of each other but it hurts- easing tensions but erasing other parts we deemed beautiful. you have seen me in my beauty and emptiness. i have seen you in good light and bad. we are naked...in manhattan
it's a scary place to be nude. so many people with so many agendas- pushing their ways into the subway cars that are too packed with egos and lacking any semblence of truth or hope. no one smiles - unless they're crazy - or do we think they're crazy because they're smiling. i smile at people -- it takes them back - sometimes they smile back but many times they look around themselves, avoiding eye contact! so odd...
we are not perfect...no one is perfect. time needs to cleanse the soul. i wish i met you earlier. i know why you say that now...i too am saying that. i wish that i could erase some memories of past occasions...but like 'eternal sunshine for the spotless mind' it isn't right. everyone is supposed to teach us something. everyone is here for a reason. be it a momentary lapse or someone who has left an impression on the soul for life........backstabbers and true friends...innocence, good lovers, or one nites -they have taught me something. i just forgot to write down notes! haha :)
here i go......
11.11.06
there is a certain hopelessness in this twin city: where life is dreadfully baren and yet some energy sparked me for the first time in a long time. where a simple hello and chat with random people makes me think that life is 'lively.' an escape from all else makes life in this biodome simple yet harder because i have to break out of the glass box that has surrounded me for some time. all i knew in my life is gone. i am starting over - displaced in a life i used to know. the past few days i have been sense-less. no, not stupid, but even a 110$ massage didn't do a thing for me. thai, on the other hand, was amazing. but i seem to be floating in-between 2 lives at the moment -twin lives in the twin city. it is as though i am coming to grips with my piscean halves. no, i am not schizophrenic, bipolar, or insane. saddened by what life has handed to me lately, yes...but because of that i'm also committed to making it better.
my favorite movie back in my childhood was 'the wizard of oz.' i believed in the good witch winning the war against evil...even those little people didn't scare me yet...she awoke from her crazy sad life and realized all she wanted was always around her. that the people she knew, loved, and respected were surrounding her in other people's souls. sometimes i feel that. i cannot help but think that some people i meet on my daily journeys are in fact others re-visiting me to 'check in' or just 'say hi.'
so santa, you are the true figment of my imagination. when i least
expect it, you sweep into my life creating a whirlwind. I am not quite
decided if i am happy or sad because of it. I suppose life has not been
easy for you lately. i guess i can say the same for myself. I have many
unanswered questions for 'someone' sometime. Its funny because the friday
before christmas i had a dream where u walked into my place and
tackled me on the couch. i responded by saying 'you're back' and you smiled. Then
you called. I wish we actually got to chat. i do not understand why you
dont call back. its no exaggeration that ive never stopped thinking
about you, so when u called i was so happy. you sounded really happy too. so
many people to meet in this life, why do i think about u? because in my
eyes you were beautiful and i wish i could know how it feels to be surrounded by you.
for your health
don't chew gum or toothpicks, etc:: 2 things: makes you hungrier --> eat more and causes stomach to produce more acid (can ruin your cardiac sphincter and lead to acid reflux)
(people who are stopping smoking should definitely not chew gum - it is the indirect cause for gaining weight)
eat lots of indigestibles (corn, lettuce, beans) - it helps with water absorption and (as we all hear) fecal excretion
dental caries (cavities) are caused acid destruction of your teeth - acid is the waste product of bacteria that live off the food stuck in your mouth - be sure to floss & brush after EVERY MEAL
THE 'THE BANDS' (mvg)
lets hear it for the 'the bands' !!
revival..... of the cars....... the NEW CARS
With bands like the Killers, Interpol, and Franz Ferdinand breaking through in 2005, former Cars guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboardist Greg Hawkes got to thinking. With all this '80s-influenced music appearing on the pop charts, perhaps it was time to revive the Cars and reconnect with music fans. The two approached the other surviving members, David Robinson and Ric Ocasek -- fifth member Benjamin Orr had lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in 2000 -- but neither was interested. It seemed like the idea was finished until Easton brought his old friend Todd Rundgren's name up, and while Hawkes was skeptical the rock & roll maverick would even consider the gig, he was pleasantly surprised when Rundgren enthusiastically accepted. Rundgren brought in two old friends who he had worked with before, former Utopia bassist Kasim Sulton and former Tubes drummer Prairie Prince. Rehearsals were held in secret, and then the band played a couple West Coast club dates in early 2006 and released a snippet of the new but incredibly vintage Cars sounding song "Not Tonight" to the Internet. A handful of appearances on late-night television talk shows followed, all promoting a spring/summer tour the band would be co-headlining with Blondie. As the tour was kicking off, the New Cars made their full-length debut with It's Alive, a collection of old Cars hits recorded live during the West Coast shows along with "Not Tonight" and two other new songs recorded in the studio added as a bonus. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
Warren Zevon
The Wind
She's Too Good For Me
Warren Zevon
Biography
One of the most acute and savagely satiric songwriters of his era, Warren Zevon was born in Chicago on January 24, 1947. His formative years were as colorful as the scenarios played out in his music: his father was a professional gambler, a lifestyle which forced the family to move frequently, and Zevon spent most of his formative years in California and Arizona. He learned to play piano, focusing primarily on classical material before a disintegrating home life led him into pop music, as well as a few run-ins with the law; after his parents divorced when he was 16 years old, Zevon hopped into the Corvette his father won in a card game and headed for New York to become a folk singer. His music found little response, however, and he returned to California, eventually releasing his first recordings as part of the duo Lyme & Cybelle. Session work followed before Zevon issued his solo debut Wanted Dead or Alive in 1969; the LP received a poor reception, and so he returned to session work and composed advertising jingles, and also served as the Everly Brothers' pianist before the duo's breakup. Following a 1974 sabbatical to Spain, Zevon returned to Los Angeles, where his longtime friend Jackson Browne had secured him a recording deal; with Browne in the producer's seat, Zevon cut a self-titled offering which was met with lavish critical praise upon its 1976 release. His 1978 follow-up Excitable Boy established him as a wholly unique talent, and earned a sizable hit with its wry single "Werewolves of London."
However, Zevon had fallen prey to alcoholism, and his personal demons sidelined him for the next two years; 1980s Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School and 1981's live set Stand in the Fire marked his gradual return to form, and the promise of his early work was restored on 1982's brilliant release The Envoy. The album fared miserably on the charts, however, and Zevon again fell off the wagon. A long period of therapy and counseling followed before, newly sober and revitalized, he issued Sentimental Hygiene in 1987, recorded with backing assistance from members of R.E.M. (In 1990, another collection of material from the sessions featuring Zevon and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry was released under the name Hindu Love Gods.) He continued his comeback in 1989 with Transverse City, a concept record inspired by science fiction's cyberpunk movement, and 1991's Mr. Bad Example. In 1993, Zevon issued his second live album, Learning to Flinch, followed in 1995 by Mutineer. His next studio effort, Life'll Kill Ya, did not appear until early 2000. It was a moderate success, enough to inspire him to step back into the studio after touring the U.S.. My Ride's Here, which featured a guest appearance from David Letterman of all people, was released in the spring of 2002. Several months later, Zevon was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an inoperable form of lung cancer, and doctors expected him to live no more than a few months. Zevon decided to work on a final album, with the help of a handful of celebrity friends and collaborators; The Wind was released in August of 2003, nearly a year to the day after Zevon learned of his condition, and he lived long enough to see its release, as well as the birth of his first grandchildren. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
His 1978 follow-up Excitable Boy established him as a wholly unique talent, and earned a sizable hit with its wry single "Werewolves of London."
However, Zevon had fallen prey to alcoholism, and his personal demons sidelined him for the next two years; 1980s Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School and 1981's live set Stand in the Fire marked his gradual return to form, and the promise of his early work was restored on 1982's brilliant release The Envoy. The album fared miserably on the charts, however, and Zevon again fell off the wagon. A long period of therapy and counseling followed before, newly sober and revitalized, he issued Sentimental Hygiene in 1987, recorded with backing assistance from members of R.E.M. (In 1990, another collection of material from the sessions featuring Zevon and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry was released under the name Hindu Love Gods.) He continued his comeback in 1989 with Transverse City, a concept record inspired by science fiction's cyberpunk movement, and 1991's Mr. Bad Example. In 1993, Zevon issued his second live album, Learning to Flinch, followed in 1995 by Mutineer. His next studio effort, Life'll Kill Ya, did not appear until early 2000. It was a moderate success, enough to inspire him to step back into the studio after touring the U.S.. My Ride's Here, which featured a guest appearance from David Letterman of all people, was released in the spring of 2002. Several months later, Zevon was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an inoperable form of lung cancer, and doctors expected him to live no more than a few months. Zevon decided to work on a final album, with the help of a handful of celebrity friends and collaborators; The Wind was released in August of 2003, nearly a year to the day after Zevon learned of his condition, and he lived long enough to see its release, as well as the birth of his first grandchildren. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
bone marrow transplant as cure for aids?
AIDS THERAPY: OBSTACLES ARE IMMENSE
Despite the heartening success in restoring immune function in one AIDS patient by bone marrow transplantation from his twin, doctors would face formidible obstacles in trying that form of treatment on a broad scale against the disease.
Money and dedication could overcome some of these obstacles, but others depend on questions that are still unanswered by science and the art of medicine.
Transplants between unrelated people would be necessary if the technique were to make any major impact against acquired immune deficiency syndrome. But bone marrow transplants from donors unrelated to a patient are still highly experimental and the total number of such transplants has been minuscule compared with the number of AIDS cases.
A large increase in the number of marrow transplant patients would involve major expense, experts said, and it still remains to be proved that bone marrow transplantation can be effective when donor and recipient are unrelated. A Government study last year reported that fewer than 70 such transplants had been done altogether throughout the world and most of the patients lived only months afterward. None of these were done for AIDS. A Need for Caution Probably much that is valuable will be learned about AIDS through the present attempt, but Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who reported the AIDS case at an international conference in Paris this week, emphasized the need for caution. He said there were no plans for widespread use of the treatment, which involves transplanting bone marrow, administering the antiviral drug suramin and transfusing white blood cells.
For the time being, he said, this therapy is contemplated only for AIDS patients who have identical twins. He also emphasized that the success in restoring the one patient's immune system has lasted only 10 months and that the treatment failed in two other patients.
Dr. Robert Peter Gale, of the University of California at Los Angeles, said his group has done four bone marrow transplants in gravely ill AIDS patients who have identical twins. The specialist said there was no unequivocal evidence of improvement. In collaboration with Dr. Fauci's group at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Gale's group plans to do two more. In these cases, Dr. Gale said, a prior step will be the attempt to use drugs to eliminate all traces of AIDS virus from the patient before the transplant is done. Risks of Procedure
Experts estimate that about 1,000 bone marrow transplants are done each year in this country, most of them between relatives. In each case the patient must be protected rigorously against any infection for weeks afterward because he is extraordinarily vulnerable to microbes.
In addition, in cases other than transplants between identical twins, there is the risk that the cells of the transplanted marrow will attack the recipient's body as foreign. Such reactions are frequently fatal. There has been recent progress in reducing this risk by use of drugs and by removing the main cells that cause the reaction from the transplanted tissue. Some of these treatments, however, decrease the ability of the transplanted marrow to survive and prosper.
In contrast with the roughly 1,000 marrow transplants done every year, the Public Health Service estimates that there will be 26,000 AIDS patients alive in this country this year and that by 1991 this number will rise to 145,000.
The Government prediction is that there will be a cumulative total of 18,000 AIDS deaths in the United States by the end of this year. The cumulative death total from AIDS by 1991 is predicted at somewhere between 142,000 and 201,000.
The logistical and medical-scientific problems of using marrow transplants to make an inroad on this huge toll would be immense.
Dr. Robertson Parkman, a bone marrow transplant expert at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, said the problems of facilities and supply of trained personnel could probably be overcome by a major effort like that mounted against polio before a vaccine was developed. Many Would Be Screened Because bone marrow transplantation is only feasible between persons whose tissue types match closely, large scale screening would be necessary to find donors for most AIDS patients. From studies on bone marrow transplantation for other purposes it has been estimated that only about 30 percent of patients are likely to have a close relative with suitable tissue.
Dr. C. Dean Buckner of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle estimated that it is necessary to screen 10,000 persons to have a 50 percent chance of finding a suitable donor for any given patient.
Last year a Government panel headed by Dr. Brigid G. Leventhal of Johns Hopkins University considered the possibility of establishing a nationwide bone marrow registry to facilitate matching of potential donors with recipients. The panel concluded that local panels were more practical.
Dr. Leventhal explained yesterday that this was partly because the local panels can better stay informed on the status of all of its potential donors. She estimated that the tissue typing of a single patient or recipient costs $600 to $1,000. To multiply this by many thousands would involve an enormous investment for the tissue typing alone.
life ??
A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.
"Not very long," answered the Mexican.
"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American.
The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.
The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"
"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs. I have a full life."
The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat."
"And after that?" asked the Mexican.
"With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your huge new enterprise."
"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.
"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.
i'm a thinker-sometimes think too much, but it's for a reason. i ask why do you want to earn all the $$ and spend your life stressed out, more time at work than necessary for these reasons::::
"Afterwards? Well my Friend, That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!"
"Millions? Really? And after that?" said the Mexican.
"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking and enjoying your friends."
"Not very long," answered the Mexican.
sex slavery bust 8/2006
Experts: Sex slaves are the girls next door
The Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) — Raids conducted last week on 20 Northeast brothels uncovered more than 70 suspected sex slaves, exposing a long-ignored national problem found in towns large and small, with immigrants and U.S. citizens alike as victims, experts say.
"It's a very overwhelming subject for a lot of people to recognize that there is slavery at this time in our country," said Carole Angel, staff attorney with the Immigrant Women Program of the women's rights advocacy group Legal Momentum in Washington. "It's hard for us as humans to contemplate what this means."
Jolene Smith, executive director of Free The Slaves, a Washington-based organization dedicated to ending slavery worldwide, agreed that the idea of 21st century slavery was foreign to most people.
Americans are conditioned to believe that slavery was a thing of the past," Smith said. "We have to reeducate ourselves about this reality."
According to Angel, victims such as prostitutes are often handcuffed and hauled off along with the traffickers who coerced them into the sex trade.
That was not the case Tuesday when federal and local law enforcement raided brothels disguised as massage parlors, health spas and acupuncture clinics in six states and Washington D.C., arresting 31 people on trafficking charges.
They took more than 70 sex workers to undisclosed locations for questioning, and to provide basic services such as health care and food. Authorities said it might take weeks to get the Korean immigrants to trust them enough to discuss their ordeal.
"Human traffickers profit by turning dreams into nightmares," said Michael Garcia, U.S. attorney in Manhattan, where the majority of the traffickers face prosecution. "These women sought a better life in America and found instead forced prostitution and misery."
Yet Angel said the raids should not give the impression that trafficking is limited to immigrants, who are often coaxed to come to America for legitimate jobs only to be forced to work in brothels, sweatshops and restaurants to pay off debts of up to $30,000 to their traffickers.
PIG TAIL ORIGIN
ALL IMPORTANT LESSONS OF LIFE:
The term pigtail appears in English in the American colonies in the 1600's to describe a twist of chewing tobacco. One of the steps in processing the tobacco was to twist a handful of leaves together to form a compact bunch that would then be cured (dried, either with or without smoking). The term "pigtail" was applied to the bunch based on its resemblance to a twisted pig's tail.
From the later 1600's through the 1800's, the term came to be applied to any braided (plaited, in British parlance) hairstyle. The British army also adopted a single pigtail or "queue" as its standard dress for long hair. Robert Louis Stevenson mentions "pigtail" referring to hair and then to "pigtail tobacco" in the first and fourth chapters of Treasure Island, respectively
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first use of the term pigtail was, of course, to refer to the tail of a pig. By the mid-1600s, however, it had taken on the added meaning of tobacco twisted into a thin string (that looked like a pig's tail.)
From there, the term was used to describe a "plait or queue of hair hanging down from the back of the head," especially for sailors and soldiers, in the late 18th and early 19th century. The Oxford English Dictionary cites this usage as early as 1750s. Usually, it was just one pigtail. The further and later nautical use of pigtail refers to a short length of rope (1894.)
The term was also used as a derogatory reference to Chinese in the late 1800s. The pigtail was a mark of political enslavement to the Manchu dynasty, and westerners made fun of the Chinese hair style. The pigtail was abolished in China in 1911 when the Manchu dynasty was overthrown in favor of the Republic.
The term used for one braid was then obviously applied (in plural) to the hairstyle of two braids
