The two words come together with so much need for understanding and complete disregard for the past…to erase an action, a thought, a feeling—how can one do that? When you hide something it become prominent.
I know the words, see them, hear them, feel them, utter them, & wish they would flutter through space more than the pigeons that toxify the world. Today I understand that this summation is NOT GREATER than the sum of its parts; that in fact this combination is more like a divider—of emotions, relationships, countries & life.
Did you ever see the movie “Love Story?” It was declared in unison by two of my guy friends as ‘the saddest movie ever made.’ The movie prophetizes that if I love someone there is no need to say those words. I suppose that before I could ever compose the thought, that it should not, and indeed, does not exist.
Enough of the use of this combination of letters, consonants, vowels, spaces, periods, exclamation points, and/or question marks. It is a phantom word & one that was seen but never to be spoken again. So if this phrase is about to enter into a conversation I will (as should the world) oust it out! Decipher the reason it appeared, damn phantom, think deep about what it would be covering up, and then dig it up, expose it for the false sense of protection it provided. Rip the blanket out of all of our hands, and leave us stranded- empty and free of the weight of the words.

Over fifty Chinatown restaurants, bakeries, and teahouses will be serving tasting plates of their house specialties and signature dishes for just $1 or $2 dollars on Saturday, April 22 from 1:00PM to 6:00PM at the “Taste of Chinatown” food festival. This bi-annual outdoor celebration invites New Yorkers and visitors alike to enjoy a culinary tasting tour of the historic neighborhood’s many Asian cuisines including Cantonese, Shanghainese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai, and Japanese to name a few.

What’s on the menu for the upcoming “Taste of Chinatown”? Here’s a preview of some of the hundreds of dishes to be savored:

§ New Eastern Villa (66 Mott St.) will offer braised flounder cubes, sliced crispy fillet steak, and sweet & sour ribs for $2.
§ Wo Hop (15 Mott St.) will serve classics such as pork fried rice, scallion lo mien, fried wontons, and hot & sour soup for $1.
§ Another classic dish, the Peking duck, will be served for $2 at several restaurants including the famous Peking Duck House at 28 Mott Street.
§ Sweet-N-Tart’s (20 Mott St.) new creation, the sautéed shrimp in pumpkin sauce will make its “Taste of Chinatown” debut along with a traditional Chinese favorite, the home-style tofu topped with shrimp, preserved cabbage, and water spinach, both for $2.
§ Surely, Chinatown is not just about Chinese food! Doyers Vietnamese (11 Doyers St.) will offer a taste of Saigon with their grilled beef & papaya salad, satay beef, and grilled lemongrass pork chop for $1
§ Jaya Malaysian (90 Baxter St.) will present its signature dishes also for just $1 including the pineapple fried rice, Malaysian curry noodles, and Singapore fried noodles.

Ever wondered what are the perfect accompaniments to bubble tea? Let the experts at Teariffic Café (51 Mott St.) tell you as they showcase $2 finger foods such as yakitori chicken skewers, shrimp toasts, samosas, and spicy chicken strips in additional to a selection of their best bubble teas.

Vegetarians will also be able to join in the fun at Buddha Bodhai Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant (5 Mott St.), House of Vegetarian (68 Mott St.), and Vegetarian Dim Sum House (24 Pell St.) where the restaurants will fool vegans and carnivores alike with their realistic animal-free versions of Chinese specialties like fried snails, shark’s fin soup, Peking pork chops, and beef noodles for $1 or $2.

Tasting stations will be set up in front of each participating food establishment throughout the heart of Chinatown from Bowery to Baxter and Canal to Worth Streets with Mott Street closed to vehicular traffic from Canal to Worth Streets. For the first time, chairs and tables will be set up on Mott Street for the dining convenience of the many epicures expected for Chinatown’s tastiest celebration.

“Taste of Chinatown” will also feature a full-day of fun and entertainment for kids of all ages including lion dances, arts & crafts stations for children conducted by the Museum of Chinese in the Americas, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Children’s Museum of the Arts, and a fortune cookie writing contest where winners may have their words of wisdom published in some of the millions of fortune cookies made by Wonton Foods each day.

A tasting tour map is available at ExploreChinatown.com to guide participants to try the maximum number of tempting dishes in one afternoon. The tour map can also be picked up at the Chinatown Tourist Information Kiosk on Canal Street and Baxter.

naps

so, naps...the all important break in the day. ironically daily om wrote something up about it today... so enjoy those days in sheeps meadow or just a park bench soaking in the sun.

Brief RespiteThe Importance of Napping
In the modern world, we're often compelled to be as productive as possible during as many hours of the day as we can be. While this can lead to great feats of accomplishment, we may become exhausted and find ourselves craving rest and rejuvenation. We may feel like taking a nap but feel guilty about indulging in even ten minutes of rest. This need for personal downtime, which many people experience in the early afternoon, isn't a sign of laziness nor is it necessarily related to how much sleep you had the night before. There was even a time when taking a nap was considered a natural part of everyone's day.Napping is a pleasurable yet brief period of sleep when our minds and bodies can take a break. Though judged by many to be a pastime for children or the elderly, napping can benefit people of all ages. The desire to nap is a trait shared by many mammals, and napping is still an important part of the day in some countries. Snoozing for a half-hour can be an enjoyable way to promote physical well-being, and naps have been known to improve your mood and memory. A 20-minute nap can sharpen your senses and revitalize you, while a ten minute nap can leave you feeling more cheerful. Falling into a light sleep during the daytime can feel meditative. The thoughts you have as you are taking a nap and the dreams you experience may offer you insights about your life that you may not have at night when you are in a deep sleep. In order to fully enjoy the benefits of napping, you may need to give yourself permission to nap. Feeling guilty about snoozing or worrying about your to-do list won't do you much good when you are trying to take a nap because your thoughts or feelings will keep you awake. Try to nap at the same time each day, and use an alarm clock to ensure that you don't sleep for too long. If you go to an office, try crawl under your desk for a nap. Learning to nap and enjoy its restorative benefits can help you wake up restored, rejuvenated, and ready for the rest of your day.

late night players

Late Night Players areperforming at Caroline's on Broadway - arguably NYC's finest comedyclub - Monday, April 17, at 9:30 PM, and Caroline's (www.carolines.com) is located at 1626 Broadway, between 49th and50th. Here's the catch – this is a "bringer" show, meaning we have toget 100 people to attend or face the wrath of Caroline's! And foryour attendance to count towards our total, we need you to RSVP to theCaroline's box office – 212 757 4100 – and specifically tell them youwant tickets for the Late Night Players show. The show only costsFIVE DOLLARS – super cheap, especially for Caroline's – but it onlycosts $5 if and only if you RSVP. If you just show up on the night ofthe show without RSVPing, your ticket costs megabucks and you don'tcount towards our 100. Crazy, yes, but such is the biz, folks, and weare confident we can pull this off – with your help. So, again, thatRSVP is super important.

there is a place called here & now where time does not enter...where beautiful broken clocks go unnoticed; where time & space cease to exist; where gentle touches & caresses fill the space where nothing else can enter; time fills the void; time makes everything possible; right timing will do wonders for many souls;in the end, we are all slaves to the clock: biological, mental, physical, emotional; death....that is...if you let yourself look at the hands of that which is not broken

life is very different from where it was just a month ago....... filling time w. beautiful people & smiles & much more than i ever knew existed....the last thing that would fill the space beautifully is a call from massive that i have a new home amonst the trees & orange lights.......that i get to actually be 100% fulfilled for a time in my life.......that would be beautiful!

so what wisdom can i pass on to those of you still in 26 yrs....basically this:
(more medical-psychological based as my experience here helps me learn a lot)
1.life is too short to be unhappy
2. if you know the outcome is going to be bad, avoid everything you can to stop the situation from happening, no use suffering
3. if you can learn something from someone let them teach you, don't be a hardhead
4. dance & smile till you drop from exhaustion b/c we won't be dancin like this at age of 70
5. don't let other people's judgements affect you; equally try to take other's emotions into consideration & try not to hurt them
6. if it's meant to be it will....don't drag something out past it's due time; people weave into & out of our lives every day - it is only hard to deal w. the fact that we have to throw some fish back into the sea if they are 'not right' ---finally i understood this metaphor!!!!!!!!
7. be dramatic but don't let drama run & ruin your life
8. keep practicing -you'll get better!!!!! years ago my singing voice sucked & now it's pleasantly audible
9. keep old friends in your life if they are GOOD FOR YOU, including old loves ; if it's hurting you (or both of you) too much or is too complicated let it go
10. on that note, if it's a one-way street....go to the next block & you might find park ave!
11. good things come to those who wait...and we're all good things......... :)
12. try to remember your childhood & what made you happy b/c this will keep you sane at 1/4 and 1/2 life crisises........
13. love like you've never been hurt & give all you've got to everyone you can b/c it's the only way to know if it'll work out (thanks sean.. ! )

The Scene......A mysterious fortune teller at the entrance sets the stage for the elegant, sexy haven inside. The richly appointed interior, meant to evoke a 1920s speakeasy, glows from the warmth of the mahogany-covered walls and soft lighting. The mustachioed mixologists--outfitted in white chef-style shirts--work a bar crowded with a fashionable downtown crowd. A skylight adds romance to the raised back room, where diners sample dishes such as sauteed oysters, steak tartare and stuffed pork loin.
The Draw........While the staff graciously asks patrons if they're staying for dinner, most of the action swirls around the bar (gently warmed by a fire in the winter). The smooth Pimm's Cup, made with Cointreau, fresh lime and ginger soda, has just the right touches of cucumber and mint. To awaken the taste buds, try the bright Ginger Smash, a muddle of ginger root and cranberries, mixed with gin and apple liqueur
Where to Sit......In the summer months, the backyard garden opens for an alfresco experience.
What to DrinkThe list of wines by the glass includes two local choices: a rose from the Wolffer Estate in the Hamptons and a riesling from Waters Crest in Long Island. Whites and reds by the bottle are also available, most between $40 and $50 a bottle

  • so what wisdom can i pass on to those of you still in 26 yrs....basically this:

there is a place called here & now where time does not enter...
where beautiful broken clocks go unnoticed; where time & space cease to exist;
where gentle touches & caresses fill the space where nothing else can enter;
time fills the void; time makes everything possible; right timing will do wonders for many souls;
in the end, we are all slaves to the clock: biological, mental, physical, emotional; death....that is...if you let yourself look at the hands of that which is not broken

***********

life is very different from where it was just a month ago....... filling time w. beautiful people & smiles & much more than i ever knew existed....the last thing that would fill the space beautifully is a call from massive that i have a new home amonst the trees & orange lights.......that i get to actually be 100% fulfilled for a time in my life.......that would be beautiful!

    Going Deep
    Self-Examination At Depth
There are times when life urges us to seek more. Small changes to our comfort zone may fail to alleviate any sense of stagnancy or frustration, and we may need to examine our lives and ourselves more deeply to find the right place to start. Everything we need for success and joy lies within. But so often, life's debris accumulates, building layers around our core that makes it difficult to access the truth that resides within. To reach the depth we wish to access, we must dive below these layers to the deepest parts of ourselves.

The first layer can be found in our minds. Our to-do lists and busy work are usually less important than we think, so we must look past them to examine the thoughts that matter most to us. The next layer can be found in our hearts, where past hurts and disappointments can sometimes cover up our vulnerabilities, as well as the truth of who and what really stirs the love within us. We can choose to go even deeper - to our center. If we can go beyond anything has affected us to the point that it blocks us at the gut level, we can reconnect with our power, our raw instincts, our organic yeses. Here, at the core, lies our truth. Our core is our foundation that supports us and what we'd like to build our authentic life upon.

When we examine ourselves to these depths, we are able to find what we wish to bring to the surface and what we wish to let go. When we remember what lies beneath our layers, we can look at what was floating on the surface, causing blocks and pains, and understand the purpose that they served. Oftentimes, it is the built up debris that causes us to go deeper, so we can search for the truth. Go deep, live life from your truth within, and watch your innate beauty manifest outward.

Lamb

05/13/1997 3:00 AM, Yahoo! Music
Bob Gulla

At its best, the electronic vibe of Manchester's Lamb (comprising the duo Andrew Barlow and Louise Rhodes) evokes the midnight sound of smoky cabarets and futuristic dancehalls, where the music permeates the air with eerie, percussive grooves and deafening silence. Lamb is the sound of electronic music as seen through the eyes of pop composers, or the sound of pop music as seen through the eyes of techno composers. Whatever. The fact is, the vibes are adventurous, but accessible, singular modes of expression, but still within our grasp as plebeian listeners, not unlike Portishead or Wild Strawberries.

As a singer, Rhodes has a soulful instinct, especially on the emotive "God Bless," the stunning "Cottonwool," in which she sounds like a more melodic (but just as tense) PJ Harvey and on "Feela," where the tinkling chord progression is so still it almost stops. Techno-meister Barlow mixes his material with an impressive boggle of electronic sounds, among them hip-hop, jazz, drum and bass and straight-on techno.

Occasionally, his grooves falter, as they do on the too-static "Trans Fatty Acid" and the lush, but uninteresting "Gorecki." Yet when he filters his electronics through jazz and hip-hop, as he does on "Zero" and "Merge"--the latter with a perfect muted trumpet track--he creates a compelling soundscape of late-night noise

    • All the people of the world can be put into two categories: those who have had the platter, and those who have not."

For years masses of people have been flocking to the corner of 53rd & 6th (7:30PM - 4AM) to satisfy their hunger with simply the best meal in the City. Some people call it the "Platter" while others know it as "Chicken & Rice", the "Chicken Guy" or the "Gyro Spot." Part of the secret to this delicious meal is in the white sauce. Nobody knows what it is, but everybody knows to ask for lots of it.

      Amplification
Presented in association with The Joyce Theater

"A raw and powerful work...Amplification is not for the faint-hearted or the prudish."
      -Jane Howard, Melbourne Herald Sun

In their highly anticipated U.S. premiere, Australia's foremost contemporary dance company unleashes unsettling work utilizing inventive media, fiercely rigorous dance and twisted humor. In Amplification, choreographer Phillip Adams deconstructs a car accident to examine the thresholds of the human body with both scientific fascination and morbid curiosity.

    • Two Hands Of A Prayer--Ben Harper--Burn To Shine (1999) *************

First time that I saw her she had white doves in her eyes
She spoke to me but I could not reply, not reply
She was a stranger I had known for years
She brought to me so many smiles and tears, smiles and tears

The two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer

Tired maid slowly drifts into the past, into the past
And finds a home where all echoes rest, where echoes rest
She softly kissed my mind, my mind, and whispered what will we do with time, do with time

The two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer

Am I the man I choose to be, choose to be,
Or just the man I used to be, used to be
Am I the man I want to be, I want to be
This question, it keeps haunting me, haunting me

The two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer
Together like the two hands of a prayer

Sweet Surrender- Sarah McLachlan- Surfacing (1997)
Free-Donavon Frankenreiter-Free (2004) (is this the new ben?)
Born on December 10, 1972 in Downey, California, Donavon Frankenreiter took to surfing at a young age. By the age of 13 he had a sponsor -- Billabong -- and the pursuit of a professional career in surfing led to a move to Hawaii a year later. He had rented a home from the parents of Jack Johnson, a fellow surfer who would become a successful recording artist years later. The two became fast friends, learning guitar together, surfing, and just plain hanging out. Music was always fun to play for Frankenreiter, but it wasn't until 2002 that he was confident enough to try it professionally. Meanwhile, Johnson's musical career had broken through into the mainstream, and he was starting his Brushfire Records label. With guest spots from Johnson, G. Love, and Koool G. Murder of the Eels, Frankenreiter's self-titled debut appeared on Brushfire in May of 2004. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

...the enjoyment of placing meanings on each word & discovering their meanings...
      6am, day after Christmas
I throw some clothes on in the dark
      The smell of cold
      Car seat is freezing
      The world is sleeping
      I am numb
Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte
They're not home to find us out
      And we drive
Now that I have found someone
      I'm feeling more alone
      Than I ever have before
      She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
      She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
      Can't you see
It's not me you're dying for
      Now she's feeling more alone
      Than she ever has before
      She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm heading nowhere
      She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
      As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me "Son, it's time
      To tell the truth"
      And she broke down
      And I broke down
'Cause I was tired of lying
      Driving back to her apartment
      For the moment we're alone
      She's alone
      I'm alone
      Now I know it
      She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm heading nowhere
      She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

**When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
      But you still have
      All of me

      You used to captivate me
      By your resonating life
Now I'm bound by the life you've left behind
      Your face it haunts
      My once pleasant dreams
      Your voice it chased away
      All the sanity in me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
      I've been alone all along

The band's debut came when they played live for the first time at a benefit concert on April 21, 2001. Named Desaparecidos after the 1970s practice of some South American governments kidnapping dissidents and tossing them out of airplanes into the ocean, Desaparecidos' lyrics are based on the loss of human values, supported by high-energy vocals, heavy drums, and powerful chords.

See everything on the inside, out
Oh, please give me a little more
And I'll push away those baby blues
Cause one of these days this will die
So will me and so will you
I write a letter to a friend of mine
I tell him how much I used to love watch him smile
See I haven't seen him smile in a little while
Haven't seen him smile in a little while
But, I know you're laughing from the inside out
    Laughin' from the inside out
I know you're laughing from the inside out
    Laughing from the inside
    From the inside
    From the inside out

    - st andrew's fall --- wonderful cello !!!

    Shannon: vocals, acoustic guitar
    Brad: bass
    Christopher: guitar
    Rogers: guitar
    Glen: drums
    Miles Tackett: cello
    Stephen Moses: trombone

Shannon based this song on seeing a young woman jump from a building to her death in Detroit. "We were all sitting there arguing about a monitor mix and that happened - it made me realize how much the monitor mix has nothing to do with the big picture. "You learn so much about yourself through tragic scenarios.... I think it just made me realize things that you take for granted."

A demo version of this song was recorded at Bullet Studios, Nederhorst Den Berg, Holland in November 1993.

    Lyrics:
Big stretch and not much sleep
I got a couple of palm trees on each side of my cheek
And it's a bright blue Saturday
And the rummage sellin' the rubbish to me
But if I could buy the sky, that's hanging
    over this bed of mine
If I could climb these vines
and maybe see what you're seeing
If you were standing on the corner staring straight
into the eyes of Jesus Christ
One porch, one dog, one cockroach only one way to be
I got sewage fruit and it's growing out back from roots
I don't know if they belong to me
But if I could buy the sky that's hanging
    over this bed of mine
And if I could climb these vines
and maybe see what you're seeing
Sitting at the edge of this building,
Twenty stories below, twenty stories below
    Twenty stories below
I can't tell you, how many ways that I've sat
and viewed my life today, but I can tell you
I don't think that I can find an easier way
So if I see you walking hand in hand in hand
with a three armed man, you know I'll understand
But you should have been in my shoes yesterday
You should have been in my shoes yesterday
    (Background of last verse)
Oh,I can pull the crappy things we did together
In my day so I posed myself some questions
Maybe this week's gonna get me into shape
Hey, I got my head buried 'neath the pillow,
I got my head beneath my pillow so low

i realized what is the problem w. me here - since the inception of my new employment placment i have only been dealing with death. day in & out i read about the problems people have- nothin like a bad day here when you find out one or another person who you knew (personally or by name) has passed away. you change status from alive to dead on a computer program & that is the end of that....live goes on for us. you never meet the family or see how they are doing. they are a number in your computer database program that takes 2 mts for you to learn how to use to the best of your ability. hopefully these people will live, but we follow them until their date of expiration - so one day, be it your day or theirs they will no longer exist. that is what is going on here & why it is quite difficult for me to find happiness.

PS 122 Performance 9/21/05

Christina Olson: American Model
Tamar Rogoff Performance Projects- solo performance by Claire Danes.

.......I was lucky enough to see the performance last nite, opening nite. Absolutely moving & beautiful. I was moved to tears, well more-so sobbing...combination of an stunning orchestral composition from Christian Frederickson & Rachel's, the story line, choreography from Tamar, and Claire's movement.

The story line revolves around a woman named Christina Olson, best known as the woman in the pink dress depicted in Andrew Wyeth's painting, Christina's World. Most did not know that she suffered from a never-diagnosed muscular deterioration that left her arms weak and her lower body paralyzed. Fueled by both pride and denial, Christina rejected wheelchairs and found ways to move through the world relying only on her own strength.

Claire's performance is magical. it is choreographed by Tamar in the genre of modern dance, and Claire pulls it off with beautiful lines, poses, and strength. Through dance she portrays the woman's strength, suffering, frustration, and dreams. Not flawless, but awe-inspiring!

the music that accompanies this piece is breath-taking; it screams of suffering,e specially in the opening phrasing with the low cello and viola. Rachel's consists of a group of musicians from kentucky, including composer Christian Frederickson (viola), Edward grimes (drums), Rachel Grimes (piano), Greg King (films), Eve Miler (cello) and Jason Noble (guitar).

video by Harvey Wang and Andrew Baker, costume by Liz Prince, and lighting by David Ferri; house manager Alex Reeves.

Being Who You Are
Living Your Truth

When we are young children, we live authentically, seldom afraid or
embarrassed to seek out what we want or to speak our minds. As we grow
older, we tend to tuck that authenticity away, putting it aside while we
chase our dreams, afraid that it might hinder us in our success. But we
never let that freedom go completely. We may conform to society while
embracing secret passions when alone. We may withhold certain opinions,
though it doesn't change the fact that we possess them. It is
important, however, to never stray too far from that youthful brashness and
self-interest for they are qualities that help make you who you are. The
authentic you is your true self and, in living authentically, you live
your truth, making time for the things you love and projecting who you
really are. The simplest way to live your truth is to leave the
expectations of other behind and live the way you feel most worthwhile.

It takes being selfish in a healthy way by doing what you know is best
for you, regardless of the opinions of others - even the opinions of
close friends and family. Living authentically means that you make
choices without fear, trusting in your soul's wisdom... If you value personal
pursuits, don't feel forced into a certain job just to make enough
money to keep up with your neighbors. Conversely, if you prize success in
business, don't let others' perception of what's right for you hold you
back. Denying your unique truth can lead to feelings of failure and
dissatisfaction because you aren't acknowledging your true self. In living
your truth, there are no pretenses. Everything you do will reflect who
you truly are.

If you are unsure of who the authentic you really is, look inward and
ask yourself what your purpose, values, and needs are. Honor your
strengths and don't let yourself be guided by what other expect of you.
Finally, discover your passions by trying new things, and sticking with
those things that stir your soul. Finding who you really are and then
making the choice to embrace you true dreams and desires will take your life
in a direction that is both satisfying and deeply meaningful.

***** i heard this song & really dig it-- anyone know who it is???

"my weary heart can find rest when we come together i did not dare..."

  • *** must see movie ***

3 Iron: directed by Ki-duk Kim (sometimes Kim's just do amazing things!)

Safe Summer Grilling ?? -- those yummy grilled foods can be hazardous...

With summer only weeks away, it won't be long before backyard BBQ's become a weekend ritual. However, the link between grilling and cancer risk remains a concern.

When meats, poultry and fish are grilled or broiled it causes the formation of compounds called heterocyclic amines (HCAs), which have been listed as cancer causing agents. When fat from the meats drips onto the hot coals, carcinogens can be deposited back onto the food by smoke and flare ups.

According the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), people do not need to avoid grilling. They have recommended guidelines which minimize the health risks associated with grilling. These include:

-Marinating meats before grilling, as this can reduced the amount of HCAs produced

- Precook meats in the microwave, you can reduce the amount of time you need for grilling

-Use lean meats and trim visible fat prior to cooking to reduce the drips that cause smoke and

flare ups

-Flip food frequently to help limit HCA formation

-Remove charred or burnt portions before serving

-Grill more vegetables and fruit and less meat

Si*Se, DJ Busquelo

** Knitting Factory -- Main Space // 8:00 pm **

Si*Se is "edgier than Sade but more accessible than Everything But the Girl, Si*Se is a bilingual septet from New York specializing in the fusion of chilly electronic beats with a warm, pan-Latino sensibility," (Los Angeles Times).

On David Byrnes LuakaBop Records, Si*Se formed two years ago by singer Carol C and programmer/DJ U.F.LOW. They bring together the atmospheric vibes of electronica with the crackle of live instruments. The results are electric: "Its about mixing stuff up thats not usually mixed together," says Carol C. "Were a band from New York City and we try and combine all of its musical traditions including hip-hop beats, Latin rhythms and down-tempo electronic music because thats what we hear everyday of our lives. Its a prelude to the future."

great theatre: Pullman, WA: a play about what to do if you're unhappy and everyone around you is kind of an asshole, including yourself... perfect for those twenty-somethings having a quarter-life crisis...what am i supposed to be doing, why am i unaccomplished, who am i??!!! this play addresses those concerns in a great format. a laid back, monologue begins against a bland background; actors are very engaging. he feels it too, this man; the man with the answer on how to live life. the answer is simple: you are you and always have been, every piece of you is important and don't let yourself forget it. play skips to acid-trip fairy-tale land where unicorns and rainbows are fleeting images in their minds. fighting the power of beauty and self-hatred, these actors know how to get your attention. it opens your eyes and spirit.

Damon & Naomi w/ Kurihara from Ghost, Raising The Fawn (featuring John Crossingham of Broken Social Scene), A Northern Chorus

The Knitting Factory-- Main Space // 7:00 pm

Post-Galaxie 500, the rhythm section of Damon and Naomi have involved themselves in some choice collaborations. With their gig as half of Wayne Rogers's gloriously short-lived psych unit Magic Hour and stints with acid balladeer Tom Rapp, they have set roots deep underground. Last year's 7" with Masaki Batoh and Michio Kurihara, of Tokyo acid-folksters Ghost, was their most thrilling instalment to date, twinning glorious versions of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" and Can's "You Doo Right". In the afterglow of those sessions, plans for an album were hatched and the resultant disc feels like a balanced, democratic collaboration, with neither unit dominating. Ghost rein in their more prolix tendencies, focussing instead on arrangements of a more intricate grandeur, though guitarist Kurihara still gets plenty of space to bleed all over the tracks.
